Deal History Booklets

Local history authors and museum volunteers have written a number of new booklets to explain the rich and varied history of the unique place that is Deal.  More are being written but those available currently are:

Stories and Myths from the Goodwin Sands - stories of ghost ships, tragic shipwrecks and how smugglers used them to evade the excise men and hide their contraband.

Smuggling in Deal - the smugglers were everyones friend from the gentry, who enjoyed the luxury of the goods not available elsewhere to the smugglers who made a tidy profit from their trade.  The excise men, some of whom lost their lives,  would not agree.

A Stroll along Middle Street, Deal - a fascinating insight into the history of Middle Street from its humble beginnings as simple homes for mariners to becoming one of the first conservation areas in Kent.

The Chequered History of the Deal Piers - Tourist attraction, star of the small screen, grade 2 listed and probably the most visited attraction in Deal.  This has not always been the case. This booklet tells the story of the pier from its first incarnation during Elizabethan times right up to the present day.

Each is 24 pages and packed with fascinating facts about Deal and its history.

They make great presents and are easy and inexpensive to post to loved ones who may have lost touch with their Deal roots.
